Ephesians 4:29 Family Worship Guide

Family Worship Guide

You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

Deuteronomy 6:7

Scripture: Ephesians 4:29: Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.

Main Thoughts: Our words matter. We are to encourage one another, not tear each other down with speech that isn’t fitting for the Christian. (For supplemental reading, see James 3 and discuss).

Questions To Discuss: If I have a problem with either vulgar or discouraging speech, what do I need to do to begin the process of changing that? Have I hurt anyone with my speech that I need to apologize to? Who can I encourage and build up with my words?

Main Things To Pray For Each Other: God, help us to guard our lips. Help us to be people who lift others up and who bless You with our language. Help us to recognize as Christians that we represent You.

Suggested Prayer: God, we thank You for giving us bible verses like this that remind us of the power of our words and the need for them to be reined in and guarded. Help us to be Christians that edify and encourage one another because we love You and want to obey.
