You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.
Scripture: II Corinthians 4:16-18: Therefore, we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Main Thoughts: We who live in time tend to view the things we can see and touch as being reality. But, the true reality is that which is eternal and endures beyond the here and now.
Questions To Discuss: What are some lies that we often believe because we live in a temporary world (for example, money or fame or beauty is the most important thing there is). What are some strategies that we can employ that will help us live with an eternal perspective?
Main Things To Pray For Each Other: Pray that we will live our lives understanding that this time we have on earth is only a tiny portion of our eternity. Ask God to help us live life with our eyes on Jesus. Pray for eyes to see the needs of others and for wisdom to know how to minister to others in light of eternity.
Suggested Prayer: God, help me to see what is real. Help me to understand that what I do here on earth with You and for You is all that really matters. Help me to lead my family, my friends, my co-workers, and whomever I come in contact with to You. Father, may my heart be fixed on eternity. Help me to not get tangled and distracted by the things of the earth.
