You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.
Deuteronomy 6:7
Scripture: Matthew 6:34: So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Brief Commentary: This verse comes as the end of a section of a sermon that Jesus preached known as the sermon on the mount, found in Matthew 5-7. After writing of how good our Father cares for us, Jesus finished this section with this verse. It is a great reminder of how pointless it is to waste our time worrying.
Questions To Discuss: Are there areas in my life that I tend to worry about? If so, why do you think you worry about those things? Do you believe that God cares about you and is watching over you?
Main Thoughts: Worry is a scavenger that will take whatever we allow it to take. It will take our time, our relationships, our sleep, our health, among other things. As Christians, we must reject worry by choosing instead to trust our Father. The first step in this is to make sure that we have a relationship with God the Father through faith in His Son, Jesus.
Main Things To Pray For Each Other: Pray that we will recognize areas of worry and that we will act swiftly to reject that worry by submitting ourselves to our Father in faith.
Suggested Prayer Items: God, I pray that I will have a close, personal relationship with You. I pray that You will give me discernment to recognize areas in my life that I am prone to worry. And, above all, help me to trust You, knowing that You love me, see me, and that You are in control.
